Bringing financial services to the “underbanked” in Africa

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation set out with an ambitious goal: to change the way the world’s unbanked communities access money. Current digital payment systems exclude those in developing nations and those living in poverty without bank accounts and smart phones. The foundation engaged Crosslake to lead a team of developers from four separate companies to build the Mojaloop framework — an open-source solution enabling users to send money across multiple financial providers from a non-smart phone with low fees. Today, the Mojaloop Foundation continues working to expand financial inclusion globally.
